tour memories of jd dAVIES

During the Easter Break of 1973 - in April - the first ever Campion rugby tour set off to the "Land of Sunshine and Honey" - Swansea!

During the course of the tour we played 3 games - got “smashed up” in two, with three in hospital

  • Morriston Comprehensive School, Swansea

  • Amman Valley Grammar School (JD’s old school)

  • Maesydderwen H.S. (a dramatic draw)

We all stayed in a BB on the sea front.

On Easter Monday we watched the Barbarians with a team containing players like Sir Ian McGeechan, Roger Utlley, Roy Bergiers, Thomas David & Douglas Morgan - all future British Lions.

The Babas won 35-9 - great match!

The takeaway from the tour was that the school had the touring bug and that more preparation was needed!!
